DOS Manager is a file and disk manager for DOS and Windows 95/98/Me. It supports long file names under Windows 95/98/Me. Under Windows NT/2000/XP, long names are not supported, and file and folder names are truncated to short names (8+3 characters long) during copies and moves. Compared to version 1.xx, DOS Manager includes a very rich file handling menu - multiple mask selection (even with negation), selection by file content, file editing up to 250 MB, file filtering (tabs, character set, bulk text replacement), search (part of a string contained anywhere in a name, search by file content).
DOS Manager is a utility that allows all common computer manipulations, such as file and disk operations and running programs. It is equipped with many additional functions - spreadsheet and line calculator, database manager, text and disk editor, calendar, clock, etc.
Copy, move, rename, cancel, zero, verify, HEX edit, modify, search, convert, information, restore, compare, print. Marking by text in file, by free space on floppy disk. Copying with date and time preservation of directories, with disk space control, with file splitting and merging. Safe copying (without overwriting the file). Operation on the whole disk and in the tree window or in the found files window. Support for long WINDOWS 95 file names. Commenting on files. Text file comparison with synchronization. The installation package includes more than 200 utilities and support programs, as well as a set of 38 selected shareware programs (with a total size of 12 MB) for easy use in DOS Manager (compression programs PKZIP, RAR, ARJ, antivirus program SCAN, graphic editor NEOPAINT, image viewers VPIC and GWS, graphic file converter ALCHEMY and many others).

First version of DOS Manager 2.xx (officially launched at INVEX 1996).
Support for DOSMAN.FIL and DESCRIPT.ION comment files. Quick exit with Ctrl-F10. External variables "#.SET name=#file" and "#.SET name=!program" and internal variables DMCODEPAGE and DMFILExxx added to user menu. Added GET command and the possibility to set user menu variables when opening the menu window. Added blocking switches for "@" in the user menu list or in the FOR command. When comparing strings in menu conditions, the length of the strings is prioritized (option to compare numbers). Removed menu commands SET! and VAL! (modification of the father environment). Added switches to disable some operations (EditIni, EditMnu, DiskEdi, ...). DOSMAN is automatically initialized after INI modification. Blocking ROOT interference in the tree. Marking of tree entries is not stored on disk. Fixed correct display of texts with accents (e.g. in the info window). Date and time of directories under WINDOWS 95 are set by special MS-DOS 7 services when copying.
Extensive changes to the shareware program lineup. Internal changes to the recording of user license information.
Cancelled +/- preset in F9 (display file attributes). Added finding all files for functions with "@" in the user menu when the cursor is on "..". Support for time-limited versions of DOSMAN.
Replacing mouse buttons with the MOUSEXCHG parameter. Mouse operation for all functions added. Scroll menu windows with mouse by grabbing the top edge of the window. When verifying a disc, possibility to move the pointer with mouse or cursors, possibility to repeat the verification. In the disk and text editor, switching to text mouse cursor is provided.
Disk information updated before each disk selection (Alt-F1/Alt-F2). Fixed correct execution of the "All" option when replacing text in the editor. Mouse on the function keys distinguishes the press of the shift keys (Alt-...). Disabled diskette operations (copy, etc.) for non-existent drives. When formatting a floppy disk, track 0 is always verified even when verification is disabled. Added rounding correction for integer operations in the row and table calculator (e.g. for correct execution of "INT(1/10*10)"). In the spreadsheet calculator, iteration loops (by looping cell references) have been enabled. The calculation is performed while the cell contents are changing, breaking the infinite loop with the Esc key. Files with a long name can be created using Shift-F4. Changed table control in form mode - cursor is held only in edited cells. Edited table can be exited in form mode without saving query.
Added support for CSKEY key repetition in the editor (drawing frames with Ctrl-Alt-cursors, adding a column of characters, cancelling a column of characters). Fixed handling of column block if the block is larger than the free memory. Added calendar (Alt-- key). Fixed automatic incrementing of LABEL when formatting floppies.
Functionality in OS/2 and WINDOWS NT environment in short names mode. Fixed WINDOWS 95 error when copying directories on the network (random attribute change). Directory creation when moving a file to a non-existing directory. Inserting a TAB character in the editor using Ctrl-Tab. Support for displaying LABEL floppy disks with long names in older DOS systems. Fixed interrupt operation replacing multiple spaces in the editor with an empty string. Specify a device with the ":" character during file operations. Added hot keys with F11 and F12. Files can be switched in the editor with Alt-1 to Alt-9. Allowed to invoke the spreadsheet calculator with the #.TAB command (e.g. from the user menu). Date and time of directories is optionally stored when copying and moving. Added detection of additional video cards, possibility to define user video modes. Reduced WINDOWS processor load in idle state.
Redesigned program help. Added color definition for spreadsheet calculator. Modified colors for MONO display. User menu searched in current and data directory when not found. Added color attribute table to ASCII table. Parameter /!N to return the user menu. Added holidays and other features to the calendar. Added WINDOWS national code 1250. Added block modification (upper/lower case, national code) to editor.
Automatic call of the calendar when DOSMAN starts (parameter /J). Support for upgrading older versions of DOSMAN using demo versions (e.g. from the Internet). Minor changes in utilities.
Added display of CD-ROM read speed during verification. Editor sets the ARC attribute. Help added to the user menu. Made some minor modifications and corrections.
Release DOS Manager to FREEWARE, along with the source code.
